Face detection technology is now popular with digital cameras that can be purchased by anyone anywhere. These cameras use special algorithms to fade out the scenery while you aim the camera. It detects the shape of a human faces or faces. Once the camera detects a face it automatically adjusts the focus and exposure so that an exceptional portrait is taken. The camera is trained to scan for your facial features and can keep up to ten different faces kept in it’s memory. When you take a picture and tag it to someone, later if a picture is taken of that same person the camera will recognize the face and automatically tag it.

Facial Recognition in New Digital Cameras have become popular for social networking. These cameras can be hooked up to wireless internet and you can then upload your photos to your designated social network with the custom tags already in place. When the camera is hooked up to a computer it only takes a one touch step to do the same process with the help of an internet connection. The camera is also a digital photo album and the albums can be uploaded to your computer very easily.

Many great digital picture opportunities await you that will allow you to get familiar with your digital camera and allow you to practice your new hobby. The key is to allow almost any event in your life to become a photographic occasion. One of the best places to start taking photographs is at gatherings with friends and family. This is a great opportunity to practice portraits as well as gather memories as you will be faced with a variety of lighting situations. An ideal place to practice candid shots is at a local park or by attending a local festival or fair. Candid photography occurs when the subject of the photograph are not aware they are being photographed and can lead to some perceptive, artful photographs. For action pictures, attend the local sports events of your children or own school such as football or soccer games–or photograph your pets playing in the yard. For great architectural shots, take a day trip into the big city to visit old structures. The allure of the country or forest brings the promise of some great wildlife shots, though you may require special lenses in order to keep a safe distance from the animals.

So, you just got your first good digital camera? A DSLR maybe? You are ready to start shooting away. I’d like to offer up a few tips on setting up the perfect shot.

Wild-life

You’ll need a tripod and some luck. Getting the right shot on wild-life photography is luck of the draw. You need to be in the right place at the right time. Lakes and streams make great scenes and they are teeming with animals ready for their digital debut. Try to angle your shot so that no roads, boats or other man-made structure is in the shot. A telephoto lens with a long zoom is awesome for animals and landscape, too.

Portraits

If you are an aspiring portrait photographer a basic set up is all you need to start. A few 400-800 watt lights, a stand with muslin cloth backdrops and a few props. Try to center your subject and don’t over use props. For babies and children, a simple flower or teddy bear can accentuate their beautiful little face. Shooting adults is a little harder since we don’t have genuine smiles all the time. Try to make the session light-hearted and pressure free. Don’t be afraid to shoot from many different angles. Set your camera to 55mm for the best quality.

Product

You absolutely need a light box for product photos. A bright white background will allow you to see the details of your intended subject without distracting the eye. Light! Light! Light! From all directions. A macro lens is quite handy here.

Don’t worry about trying to make all your shots perfect. Many great photographer take 100 pics to get 1 perfect shot. And, there’s always editing software! The information doesn’t stop now. Keep looking: Outdoor Portrait

The most important aspect of taking the best picture possible is to know your camera. Read the manual it came with. You will learn where the basic controls are located and how to use and set them. Once you learn the settings, you will be able to take the best picture in a less than ideal setting.

Next step, learn how to hold the camera correctly with both hands to steady it, any movement or shaking will blur the picture.

Lighting is the most important aspect in photography. Shadows and lightening can make the difference between an ordinary snapshot and a quality photo with depth.

People look best in diffused side lighting, back lightening produces a halo effect, while overhead lightening produces sharp contrasts. If possible, take pictures in the morning or late afternoon where the sun is not glaring overhead.

Taking pictures outdoors with the sun behind you and the subject in front, will get the best results. If your subject happens to be a person, make sure they are not squinting and pose them to the side.

For best results, utilize the single-shot auto focus setting, choose a single, central point to focus on and you will get the best photo.

When ready to shoot a picture take a look from another angle, it can make the difference between a good or a great picture.
