So, you just got your first good digital camera? A DSLR maybe? You are ready to start shooting away. I’d like to offer up a few tips on setting up the perfect shot.

Wild-life

You’ll need a tripod and some luck. Getting the right shot on wild-life photography is luck of the draw. You need to be in the right place at the right time. Lakes and streams make great scenes and they are teeming with animals ready for their digital debut. Try to angle your shot so that no roads, boats or other man-made structure is in the shot. A telephoto lens with a long zoom is awesome for animals and landscape, too.

Portraits

If you are an aspiring portrait photographer a basic set up is all you need to start. A few 400-800 watt lights, a stand with muslin cloth backdrops and a few props. Try to center your subject and don’t over use props. For babies and children, a simple flower or teddy bear can accentuate their beautiful little face. Shooting adults is a little harder since we don’t have genuine smiles all the time. Try to make the session light-hearted and pressure free. Don’t be afraid to shoot from many different angles. Set your camera to 55mm for the best quality.

Product

You absolutely need a light box for product photos. A bright white background will allow you to see the details of your intended subject without distracting the eye. Light! Light! Light! From all directions. A macro lens is quite handy here.

Don’t worry about trying to make all your shots perfect. Many great photographer take 100 pics to get 1 perfect shot. And, there’s always editing software! The information doesn’t stop now. Keep looking: Outdoor Portrait
